Greyhound Lines Inc. says it has spent $60 million over the past three years to freshen up its fleet of 1,250 buses and its largest terminals. Next, the company plans an advertising campaign designed to bring back former customers and attract new riders between 18 and 24, and Hispanics. Greyhound officials say the makeover is part of an upgrade that began in 2004, when the company eliminated many small-town stops and routes to speed up service between larger cities. Patty Herbeck, Greyhound’s director of marketing, said the company has refurbished more than 900 buses with new seats and paint jobs and spruced up 125 of its roughly 940 terminals by repainting, renovating restrooms and adding plasma-screen televisions in waiting areas. Dallas-based Greyhound traces its roots to 1914, when a Swedish immigrant named Carl Eric Wickman charged Minnesota miners 15 cents to ride between Hibbing and Alice.

UPDATE: Britney Spears faces questions in custody battle
This should be some hardcore legal action that makes Law & Order look like your sister's bike. Pink and fruity but you'll still ride it to work. Anyway, I'm hoping to see Kevin Federline's attorneys ask Britney Spears the tough question: When will she show her vagina again? Not that I want to see it or anything. I just happen to have a tarp I'd like to throw over it then possibly hold in place with a staple gun. I guess you can say I'm trying to live up to this WWJD bracelet I stole from a stripper. UPDATE: Britney Spears is not attending the court hearing today citing a medical condition. Kevin's lawyers are pissed, according to TMZ. I, on the other hand, think it's cute they thought Britney would show up without being told there'd be a petting zoo. .
Blog: Science ESA OKs Ion Thruster for Trip to Mercury
Few space propulsion technologies have generated as much recent interest as the ion engine. This weekend, the ESA announced it will it an advanced ion thruster to propel an upcoming probe to study the planet Mercury. The mission is named BepiColumbo after Giuseppe Columbo, a pioneering scientist in the study of Mercury. It will launch in 2013 and arrive six years later. BepiColumbo will be the ESA's first mission to the hot regions of the solar system well inside the Earth's orbit. While approaching Mercury, the spacecraft will have to endure extremely hot temperatures on its sun-facing side, and extremely cold temperatures on the side facing away from the sun. One of the primary goals of the mission is to discover whether pockets of water ice exist on Mercury's cold, shadowed side. The ion engine will be built by Astrium, a subsidiary of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS).
Wall Street extends gains; Dow up 100 points
Bond insurers have been hurt in the fallout from the mortgage and credit crises, and news of their problems has shaken the market. But those seeking good news found some in a Labor Department report that said the number of people seeking unemployment benefits last week fell for a fourth straight week. Applications for benefits dropped 1,000 to 301,000, pushing claims down to the lowest level in four months. Investors also appeared pleased by a widely anticipated agreement between Congressional leaders and the White House on an economic stimulus package. The agreement calls for most tax filers to be given refunds of $600 to $1,200, and more if they have children. Bill Dwyer, chief investment officer at MTB Investment Advisors in Baltimore, said Wall Street found some relief from word of the economic stimulus plan as well as the efforts of regulators to help bond insurers.

"I never realized that everyone came here," Gay Griffin said of her family's shop on South Center Street in Grove City. For several weeks she has heard all the stories about what her father's bike shop and her mom's toys meant to local people.

Universal brotherhood prevails at SGPC press
The capacity of SGPCs Golden Printing Press at Gurdwara Ramsar here is likely to be doubled soon. It supplies Sikh devotees all over the world with holy birs of Guru Granth Sahib. The press prints less than 40,000 birs in a year while the demand is much more. Chief of the SGPC Jathedar Avtar Singh, who took up the matter with the state and centre governments to impose a ban on the publication and sale of the Guru Granth Sahib by private publishers and booksellers, has said the capacity of the press would be doubled shortly. He said a new press would be established where holy birs would be published as per Sikh maryada. The process to publish the birs was lengthy since these were published keeping in view the Sikh traditions, he added. True to the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, which preaches universal brotherhood, the publication of the birs in the press is being looked after by the machine men and workers who are mostly non-Sikhs from Nepal, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, UP, New Delhi and other states.
Yorkregion.com - Newmarket - Slain cop's wife advocates for cycling ...
A cycling advocate is calling on cyclists across the province to put the wheels in motion and start pressuring politicians to improve cycle safety. The Newmarket Eagles Cycling Club welcomed cycling safety advocate Eleanor McMahon to its Tuesday night meeting in the Magna Room at the Aurora Public Library. Ms McMahon called upon club members to keep push for stiffer penalties for aggressive drivers who all-too-often terrorize cyclists on roadways across Ontario. “Cyclists do not get the respect on the roads we deserve," she said. “We're not all perfect, some of us run red lights and we have to work on that, too, but, in a collision, the car always wins." To that end, Ms McMahon is asking cyclists to band together and give their support to the creation of a formalized provincial cycling organization that can work with all levels of government to make communities safer and more cycle-friendly.
