She now moves in a circle of entirely like-minded women. Her social group includes six lesbian couples with babies all born within six months of Joseph. Half were conceived through donor sperm from clinics, and the others were arrangements like hers, where a gay friend or acquaintance agreed to provide the sperm.

Such arrangements are extremely fraught. There are long waiting lists for donor sperm at infertility clinics because of a chronic shortage caused by new laws allowing children conceived by donor sperm to track their genetic fathers. With informal arrangements, the father runs the risk of being approached for financial support for the child, even years after its conception, as has happened in the case of the fireman Andy Bathie, 37, of Enfield, north London, who is being pursued for child support for two children produced from his sperm donation to a lesbian couple who have now split up.

Anger at Pembrokeshire's "poor" train service

A 22-year-old Kilgetty man has demanded an apology from Arriva Trains Wales for poor train services which have frequently left him unable to get to work.

Ben Large depends on public transport to get to Pembroke School where he works as a cover supervisor. Since October he has missed a morning's work on five separate occasions due to the train not turning up.

Ben has never needed to own a car and has only found the train system to be problematic after returning to Pembrokeshire.

He said: "I have personally incurred a loss of earnings because of failures in the system where the promised alternative transport is either ridiculously late or non-existent.

"What's laughable about it is that they've now raised their fares."

He added: "It's disgusting coming from a public service, especially when the Government is trying to persuade everyone to go green'.

Wildcats win eighth straight game, 2-1

Power plays were the difference in the game," Wildcats coach John Bowkus said. “We killed off a couple of theirs and were successful on two of our own."

Detlefsen gave the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage 7:14 into the second period, with Kyle Delaurell and Adam Cardwell picking up assists. Later that period, Salazar scored a power-play goal, his team-leading 15th with a man advantage.

Fairbanks' Nick Guran beat Mike Jarboe with 3:15 remaining, but it was the only puck that got by the Wildcats' netminder. Jarboe finished with 35 saves.

The Wildcats, enjoying an eight-game win streak, have pushed their lead in the NAHL South to seven points over idle Topeka.

In Google's words, its recently unveiled "Android" is the "first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices." But it is a signal of much more. Google is as much an ideology as a firm and can resemble a nation-state in its pursuit of power rather than a mere corporation chasing quarterly numbers. Google and its allies are now trying to make the principles of openness—the commanding ideology of the Internet—the conquering principle of the wireless world, and the Android announcement is just the first step.

Android is, in form, another of Google's giveaway strategies, a Linux-based operating system for mobile phones that comes with a free set of tools that should make it easy for any programmer to write applications for a mobile phone. It's clear that any Android-based Gphone will be far more "open" than any cell phone the world has yet seen.
